Breaking News: KILLER INSTINCT will hit the New York Times Bestseller List on June 11th at #13! Thanks to everyone who made this possible --- this is a personal best for me, and I'm thrilled.
If it's Wednesday, this must be... Seattle, and I'm just starting the second half of the KILLER INSTINCT tour. I hope that those of you who live in the Seattle, San Francisco, San Diego, Washington or Boston areas can make it to one of these. If you come, bring your camera --- we'd love to post your photos to www.josephfinder.com!
The complete tour schedule is at the bottom of the newsletter, but I want to mention a few additions to the original itinerary.
On Thursday, June 1, I'll be speaking at the Commonwealth Club in San Francisco. It's a ticketed event, but open to the public as well as to non-members; the program runs from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m., with a reception immediately beforehand.
I'm incredibly flattered to have been asked to speak at Infocomm, the annual trade show for the audiovisual industry, in Orlando, Florida on Thursday, June 8. I'll be signing books at 2:30 p.m., and speaking around 3:30 p.m. If you're an Infocomm registrant, stop by and say hello.
Finally, I'll be doing two more events close to home, just in time for Fathers' Day. On Thursday, June 15, I'll be speaking and signing at the Stop & Shop #7 in Mansfield, Mass. I've never done a book event at a supermarket before. If you're in the Boston area, come out and see how it works!
Last-minute procrastinators can pick up a signed KILLER INSTINCT for Dad on Saturday, June 17, when I'll be signing at the Levenger store in the Prudential Center from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. No formal talk, just a chance to say hi to folks and sell some books --- please drop by, if you're in the neighborhood.
I've been trying to keep up with the travel blog, so you can read details there, but here are a few highlights of the tour so far.

The Launch - Brookline, Mass., May 16

The first talk, the first signing, the first winner of the 42" plasma-screen television. A good crowd braved torrential rain and flooding to come out and listen to me talk about studying the culture of salesmanship and writing KILLER INSTINCT --- or maybe they were just there for the wine and cheese.
I'm not used to drawing names out of a hat --- or, in this case, an ice bucket --- and I wanted to be fair, so I spent some time rummaging around. As it turned out, the winner was my own neighbor, Joseph DiSanto.
Picking a winner at Brookline Booksmith.

New York's winner was Richard Penaherrera. He looks happy, but not as happy as I think I'd look if I won a plasma-screen television.

By the time I got to Miami, I needed a little aid and comfort. Thank goodness for Stacy Alesi, the famous BookBitch! Stacy wrote all about it on her blog, which is required reading for all book people in south Florida, and beyond.
Congratulations to Nancy Smith, who won the TV in Coral Gables!

I was delighted to meet a couple of longtime fans - and the winner of the TV promotion there, Marcia Beer, is someone who recently moved to the area after losing everything in Hurricane Katrina. What a great thing to be able to give her something to celebrate.

I got to play corporate pundit in Atlanta when the Enron verdict came down just minutes before I was scheduled to appear on CNN Headline News. They were going to bump me unless I had some insight to offer on the breaking news; I said that my research had convinced me that Enron-style shenanigans are the exception in corporate America, not common practice. Some viewers didn't like that --- I got a few e-mails accusing me of shilling for The Man --- but it's how I see it. Those e-mails were actually a pleasant change from the ones I usually get, telling me I'm too anti-business. Congratulations to Thomas Weeks, who won that night's plasma-screen TV at Books-A-Million.

John Searles, the fiction editor of Cosmopolitan magazine, called KILLER INSTINCT a "must-read" for summer on the "Weekend Today" show on Saturday, May 20.
Subscribers to Time magazine this week will see a feature about my business-related books in a special "Inside Business" insert --- the text should be up on our website soon. And the Seattle Post-Intelligencer ran a nice interview with me last Friday.
The May 29 issue of Publishers Weekly included my thoughts on book tour, and my thoughts on corporate espionage are in the June 5 issue of Forbes (registration's required, but it's free).
KILLER INSTINCT continues to get some of the best reviews of my career. David J. Montgomery, in the Boston Globe, wrote, "KILLER INSTINCT is a superb story that dazzles with its heart-pounding suspense, even while posing deeper questions about the ethics of business and what we're willing to do to get ahead. By focusing on the relentless pace of the main plot and keeping the subplots to a minimum, Finder has tightened the narrative until it hums like a violin string." The May 20 weekend edition of The Wall Street Journal said, "Mr. Finder's premise, of imagining overcaffeinated executives like Jason Steadman storming the corner office as if it were Fallujah, is rich territory."
Stephanie Padilla of the New Mystery Reader wrote, "...questions are asked and just the right buttons are pushed, familiar enough so that we all can see how easily one path might seem more enticing than the other, how easy it might be to forget the price of success. Finder doesn't need to knock us out with moral judgments and a preacher's rant, he only need tell the story of one man not unlike the rest of us." And Oline Cogdill, of the South Florida Sun-Sentinel, wrote, "KILLER INSTINCT moves at such a brisk pace that the more than 400 pages zoom by... KILLER INSTINCT proves that Finder has the killer instinct when it comes to creating his own exciting niche."

I've heard from some of you who are distressed that you don't live near the sites of the NEC/St. Martin's plasma-screen TV. I'm distressed about this, too, but have some good news for everyone who doesn't live in one of the cities I'll be visiting.
Beginning June 12, St. Martin's will be running two other nationwide radio promotions:
From June 12 through June 18, the Adult Contemporary stations on the Westwood One radio network will be giving away copies of KILLER INSTINCT and the KILLER INSTINCT audiobook on CD. Click here to find a Westwood One station in your area.
During that same week --- again, it's June 12 through June 18 -- the classic rock stations of ABC Radio will be giving away books, audiobook CDs, and one last television - a 61" plasma-screen NEC model. Even if you don't live in an ABC Radio affiliate market, you should be able to listen to most of these stations online, through the links on this page.
Again, and always, no purchase is required to participate in any of these promotions.
For each of the past few months, I've offered a limited number of water bottles and Post-It® notes to the first handful of people who send their names and mailing addresses to my assistant, Sarah. We've gotten hundreds of responses to each of these offers, which means that some people have been disappointed --- and I'm sorry about that, too.
All the same, I'll keep including these giveaway offers in my newsletters. They're gifts to thank you for reading and responding, and I hope that people who enter these giveaways regularly will ultimately be rewarded.
Because of prohibitive mailing costs, we are not able to send parcels to international addresses.
We will, however, send everyone who asks a signed KILLER INSTINCT bookplate, regardless of where you live. To request one, just send your full name and mailing address to Sarah@josephfinder.com, with the subject line "signed bookplate."
And if you live in the United States and have not won anything from us since the beginning of 2006, we'll give a few more things away. Send your full name and address to Sarah@josephfinder.com, with the subject line "Free stuff!" and we'll give the first five a signed copy of KILLER INSTINCT; the second five a KILLER INSTINCT Nalgene® water bottle; and the third five a set of KILLER INSTINCT Post-It® notes.
