A New Website!

With the new book launching a new series, it was time to redesign my website. The brilliant designer Jessica Helfand of Winterhouse Design Studio came up with a terrific new design that's clean and spare and, I think, pretty innovative. All I did was tell Jessica that I wanted something vaguely reminiscent of the credits on the Fox TV show "Lie To Me" -- and check out the wholly original look she came up with.

The new website includes a lot of new material about VANISHED, several audio and video interviews, and quite a few special offers available. Take a few minutes to look around; I hope you like it as much as I do!

Counting Down to VANISHED: Getting the Word Out

The new website is just one of many things I've been working on before VANISHED hits bookstores next month. As my longtime readers know, I'm always looking for new avenues to get the word out about my books, and this year is no different. Since VANISHED comes out on August 18 (mark your calendar!), when many lucky people are on vacation, I won't be making many personal appearances to promote the book (details below).

Instead, I'll be as many places as I can be in the virtual world: my own web page, Twitter, Facebook, MySpace, and as many other places as I can. My new fan page on Facebook is up, and will have all the latest information about VANISHED, what I'm doing and where I'll be. I'm even going to try something quite new - a Twitter "tour," hosted by the Book Maven, Bethanne Patrick. My web manager Karen and I are working on ways to give readers their own opportunities to interact with me and Nick Heller online, without having to leave their homes or rearrange their vacation schedules.

By the way, it fascinates me to see how these online outlets feed into each other, creating true communities of readers and people who share common interests. People who are wired into one network are inevitably tied into others, too. When the free PARANOIA download went live on Amazon, for example, I didn't even know about it until someone sent me a message about it on Twitter. Within minutes of the announcement on Twitter, it had made the Kindle bestseller list, and within a few hours it was at #1 - with no real promotion except through Twitter, Facebook and MySpace word-of-mouth.

I'm looking forward to the next few months, and I hope you'll get in touch even if you aren't able to attend one of the handful of "real life" events. Keep reading for more news about the tour, and stay tuned for further information!

THE COWL: How to Get Your Copy

Although the tour for VANISHED will be mainly virtual, I'll be doing a lot of real-life traveling over the next few months. Check my website for new events as they're added.
