Counting Down to BURIED SECRETS
|
|

|
The wait’s almost over. BURIED SECRETS will be in stores everywhere in less than a month, on June 21, and I’m getting pretty excited about it. The book’s already getting some of the best reviews of my career; last month, Booklist called it “A total wow of a read,” and said it was “About as perfectly plotted and suspenseful as possible.” Shucks, I’m speechless.
My right hand, though, is less thrilled than the rest of me. That’s because I’m signing 1,000 bookplates – yes, 1,000 – to give away to anyone who pre-orders a copy of BURIED SECRETS between now and June 21. Send your proof of purchase to my assistant Claire at claire@josephfinder.com and I’ll send you not only a personalized bookplate, but also a cool Heller Associates field journal. And if that weren’t enough, anyone who sends in a pre-order receipt will be eligible to win one of 25 audiobooks of VANISHED, to hear Holter Graham tell the story from the beginning. Details, with a list of links to stores and sites where you can pre-order the book, are here.
The first excerpt from BURIED SECRETS is now up on the website.. We’ll be uploading a couple more between now and June 21, so stay tuned. And if you want a more visually-oriented preview, watch the book trailer.
If you haven’t read VANISHED yet and want to catch up before the sequel, we’ve got a deal for you. For a limited time, VANISHED is available in Kindle, Nook, Sony e-reader and Kobo format for only $2.99!

Sometimes...Even Nick Heller Needs a "Plan B"

Building a series character is a different process from writing a standalone thriller. One of the things I like most about it is that in almost any given situation I can ask myself, “What would Nick Heller do?” It’s more than a game; it’s the source of countless story ideas. So many stories, in fact, that I’ll never be able to write them all.
But not every one of Nick’s adventures needs to be a full-length novel. Sometimes he’s able to take care of business more quickly, as I discovered when I wrote “Plan B,” a short story about another kidnapping case he took shortly after the events of BURIED SECRETS. I learned some new things about Nick from “Plan B” – did you know he used to smoke? – and I hope you will, too.
I’m delighted to be able to make “Plan B” available free in e-format through Amazon US and Barnes & Noble. Readers outside the US, don’t despair — a version is now available on JosephFinder.com. If you read it and like it, please post a review, and let me know!
As a bonus, “Plan B” includes a few sample chapters from BURIED SECRETS. It will be available only between now and June 21, so don’t miss it.

THE ZERO HOUR Back in Stores Today
|
|
An international financier with a history of violence against women. A hitman who wreaks havoc on behalf of the highest bidder. A gutsy FBI agent who’s unaware that someone’s watching her every move . . . those aren’t today’s headlines, they’re the basis for my third thriller, THE ZERO HOUR, which will be back in U.S. stores today in a new mass market paperback edition.
THE ZERO HOUR has been out of print and hard to find for several years, so I’m delighted to see it back in the stores. Set in New York City in 1996 – before 9/11, before the financial meltdown of 2008 – it brings up many memories of times and places that have disappeared or changed beyond recognition. But the characters and the story hold up, I hope, and I think Publishers Weekly’s description of it as “a thinking person's thriller with bite” still holds true.

It’s a pretty short tour, but I’ll also be online a good bit during that time, and before. In fact, you can watch two videos now about my research for BURIED SECRETS – one in which I look for the world’s most exotic perfume and one in which I actually – yes – asked to be buried alive, just to see what that was like.
I’ll also be doing several blog interviews between now and June 21. The best way to keep up with all the different appearances is through my Facebook fan page, where I’ll post links to those interviews, and might even give a few more things away in the month ahead. Look for me there and on Twitter (@joefinder), and let me know what you think.
All right, time to get back to work. I don’t know about you, but I find the Internet a terrible distraction . . . in fact, so terrible I made an Internet video about how I restrict my own access. Take a look.
